From October 26 to November 6, command and principal staff officers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces MIB „Iron Wolf" participated in an international exercise „Loyal Jewel 2009" in Norway. The exercise took place in the NATO Joint Warfare Centre based in Stavanger.
„Loyal Jewel 2009" was designed to train and evaluate readiness of staffs of land, maritime, air and logistic components of NRF-14 to fulfil their tasks. Other components were deployed in NATO commands in Denmark, Portugal and Germany in the framework of the exercise.
„The drill was very beneficial, operational training gave our troops new skills and practice. It was both a big responsibility and recognition of MIB „Iron Wolf" as an equally qualified and reliable partner for top-level exercise," said Col. Vilmantas Tamošaitis, Commander of MIB „Iron Wolf".
Complex scenario of „Loyal Jewel 2009" required precise coordination not only of internal tasks of the land component but also of land, maritime, air and special operations components' tasks together on the way to the common goal of the exercise. Experience of work in a multinational environment, knowledge gained while planning and participating in a as high-level exercise as this will be used for the benefit of training and teaching soldiers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
„I am satisfied with the quality of the Brigade's soldiers' ability to plan a wide scope of operations and I believe that the exercise was beneficial to all the participants," said Col. V. Tamošaitis.
After the exercise Commander Danish Division Gen. Maj. Agner Rokos thanked participants of the exercise for the implemented tasks. „We have achieved the goals of the exercise and showed our professionality during the last weeks of training and implementation of tasks. We have laid down a reliable foundation that will make us capable of responding to possible threats". MIB „Iron Wolf" is affiliated to the Danish Division serving as the land component of NRF-14.
The „Loyal Jewel 2009" exercise is organised by the NATO Joint Command Lisbon.
