On May 25–27, Chief of the Lithuanian Defence Staff RADM Giedrius Premeneckas and a delegation paid a visit to the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) HQ in Szczecin, Poland. The meeting with MNC NE Commander Lt Gen Dariusz Parylak focussed on regional security, military cooperation and interoperability with NATO Allies.
Another topic addressed was the functions Lithuania will have as the fourth MNC NE Framework Nation. Taking this step boosts Lithuania’s role in the Alliance’s defence architecture and help the Lithuanian 1st Division to integrate effectively within the Corps structure. All of this together makes Lithuanian contribution to planning of NATO’s collective defence and ensuring regional security even more effectively.
“Lithuania is consistently strengthening our military capabilities and responsibilities with the NATO Command Structure. We a aiming not just for a closer integration with the Alliance’s structures but also an active contribution to collective deterrence and regional defence. Becoming a MNC NE Framework Nation would be a significant step in strengthening operational readiness and interoperability with the Allies of our military,” said RADM Giedrius Premeneckas.
When addressing Lithuanian Armed Forces capability development and modernisation processes development of the 1st Division, strengthening its combat readiness and integration in the regional NATO plans was in focus. Also, Exercise Thunder Strike 27 and the 1st Division’s Combat Readiness Evaluation (CREVAL) scheduled in 2027.
Generals also addressed strengthening deterrence on NATO’s Eastern Flank and initiatives launched to implement the Alliance’s defence plans effectively. Both sides agreed that coordinated actions in the region was needed to ensure rapid response to arising threats.
The Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) HQ coordinates Allied land operation in NATO’s North-East region, including when it comes to deployment of NATO’s rapid reaction forces. It also coordinates NATO military capabilities deployed in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and plays a critical role in execution of the Alliance’s collective defence plans in the Eastern Flank.
