On September 9-20 LNS Aukštaitis (P14) patrol ship and LNS Skalvis (M53) mine countermeasures ship of the Lithuanian Navy took part in one of the largest multinational exercises conducted in the Baltic Sea, Northern Coasts 2023.
The sea rea used for the maneuvers mostly included territorial waters and exclusive economic zone of Latvia and Estonia and littoral waters of the same countries. The exercise involved over 30 warships and approx. 3.200 troops from 15 countries: Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Italy, U.S., Canada, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Norway, Netherlands, France, Finland, Sweden, and Germany. The exercise scenario trained amphibious landing operations, warship maneuver in defence of sea-lanes, to ensure sustained military assistance to NATO Allies on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. Crews of LNS Aukštaitis (P14) and LNS Skalvis (M53) were honing surface, above-surface, subsurface and mine countermeasures combat procedures, tactical signal procedures with Allied ships throughout the exercise, trained tactical maneuver within a unit and attended live-fire gunnery training with artillery guns fired at airborne and above-surface targets.
