Chief of the Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Lt Gen Remigijus Baltrėnas met with Commander of the Bundeswehr Joint Forces Operations Command Lt Gen Bernd Schütt ahead of the NATO Multinational Battle Group Lithuania rotation on February 4.
Generals discussed military partnership between the two countries with a particular focus on the progress in stationing the German Brigade in Lithuania, running affairs and coordination.
“Development of the right infrastructure for the German Brigade remains our priority. We are gradually continuing the constructions of the Rūdninkai campus and look forward to next troop deployments planned to amount to approx. 500 by the end of the year. We are moving forward with this project in close coordination on all matters with the German Allies,” said Lt Gen R. Baltrėnas after the meeting.
The Ministry of National Defence has announced expected arrival of signal, headquarters and service companies, as well as medical and logistical units this year. They will be housed in temporary infrastructure in Nemenčinė and Rokantiškės. The target is to have key Brigade units with all enablers stationed by 2027.
Also, Lithuania’s decision to extend its multinational missions mandate to include the NATO operation in Kosovo KFOR in composition of the German Contingent. Germany is a critical partner in operations and the mission will improve Lithuania’s ability to act together with it.
