From November 5 through 8 personnel of the Command Staff and units of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade (MIB) "Iron Wolf" attend a military specialist training event Red Knight organised by the Danish Division Staff. The exercise trains operational planning skills in the training audience - 32 Lithuanian military delegates and staff personnel of the Danish Division Staff and the affiliated Estonian, Latvian, and Danish brigades.
The exercise is aimed at training military specialists of both direct and indirect effect. Theoretical and practical tasks included into the exercise scenario which is generated by exercise directing staff provides an opportunity for training offensive operational planning in composition of a multinational division and military decision making procedures in line with the available NATO standards, and also for a discussion over the military methodology matters and for a joint effort in finding the optimal solutions.
Red Knight is a part of a series of exercises organised on the basis of the combat training plan of the Danish Division. In parallel to this event, military personnel of the MIB "Iron Wolf" along with the international partners prepare for a verification staff exercise Red Knight to take place in Estonia in November which will test operational planning abilities of the units affiliated to the Danish Division. An international training event in Denmark, Yellow Knight, next spring will trial the efficiency of the operational plans produced.
The MIB "Iron Wolf" was affiliated to the Danish Division in 2006 by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) endorsed by the Lithuanian and Danish Chiefs of Defence. The document covered the opportunity of collective work of Lithuanian and Danish officers in multinational staffs, joint training events and exercises. It was also designed to ensure interoperability of Lithuanian and Danish military units in a spectrum of multinational operations.
