On August 8–9, personnel of the 506th Infantry Company, Vytis Territorial District of the National Defence Volunteer Force, took part in a Field Training Exercise of the 56th Combat Support Battalion of the Latvian National Guard (Zemessardze) in the Jēkabpils area (Latvia).
The Lithuanian personnel trained alongside the Latvian partners honing collaboration, combat skills, and building interoperability, while delivering on the exercise objective to enhance readiness for Latvia’s territorial defence and the effective cooperation with the Lithuanian NDVF.
The 5th Territorial Unit (NDVF) took part in the exercise in Latvia with the Patria wheeled armoured vehicles assigned to the unit for the training. . They rehearsed a specific scenario unfolding in the exercise area building readiness as a separate unit. Over the two days of the exercise, members of the 506th Infantry Company and their Latvian colleagues trained different tactical tasks: mounted platoon patrols, setting up mobile check-posts, tactical action in urban area. They particularly focused on command and control procedures, rapid information exchange and mutual support in action.
The Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Force (NDVF) maintain a close collaboration with Latvia’s Zemessardze: from joint tactical exercises to different sports and cultural events. Regular joint training and collective tasks cultivate mutual trust, increase mutual understanding and allow to maintain readiness for joint defence if needed.
