NDVF troops fly Lithuanian flag in Mali

The 12th rotation of the Force Protection Unit (FPU) formed By the Great Battle Military District of the Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Force. Following a parade, he troops hoisted the Lithuanian flag given by the NDVF Commander in the base alongside flags of other countries in the rotation to fly there through the deployment.

The 12th rotation of the Force Protection Unit with the German Contingent have replaced the 2nd Territorial Unit (Kaunas), Darius and Girėnas Military District, NDVF colleagues in the mission in Mali. The FPU ensures security of forces in the military base in the province of Gao in eastern Mali.

The Multinational Integrated Stabilization Mission (MINUSMA) was launched in Mali by the United Nations in 2013 to stabilize the country, support the transition action plan, protect the civilian population, promote and protect human rights, arrange humanitarian assistance, protection of heritage and justice at national and international levels. The first NDVF-formed FPU-1 deployed to the operation in October 1. Since 2003, over 1000 NDVF troops have served in international operations in Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan as infantry and specialist personnel.
