New Bundeswehr Army Commander Lieutenant General Christian Freuding visits Lithuania

On October 22–24 Inspector of the Army of the Bundeswhr Lieutenant General Christian Freuding is conducting his first official visit to Lithuania which kicked off with meetings with the Lithuanian military leadership.  

Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Brigadier General Nerijus Stankevičius introduced the guest to Division development and force activity plans, particularly focusing on ongoing modernization and strengthening of the defence capabilities. Generals discussed prospects of military cooperation aiming to ensure the highest readiness and interoperability with NATO partners. They also focussed on stationing of the German Brigade, strengthening capabilities and long-term cooperation, regional security and other relevant aspects of military cooperation. 

“Lithuania and Germany are bound by steadfast cooperation based on trust. Our troops are conducting a continuous training cycle to be effective in joint missions in defence of every inch of the Alliance territory.  This visit underlines the mutual objective to continue strengthening the military cooperation and interoperability of our forces,” aid Commander Land Force Brigadier General N. Stankevičius.

Lieutenant General Ch. Freuding is visiting German military personnel serving in Lithuania, familiarizing with the service and lodging conditions they get in Lithuania, learning about the missions and routines of concrete units and viewing the organic equipment. The guest was also debriefed on site functionalities when visiting the Permanent Logistical Capability Support Area at Rukla opened this September. Inspector of the Army of the Bundeswhr is also planned to visit Rūdninkai to see the Rūdninkai Campus infrastructure developed for the German Brigade.

The three-day visit covers yet other meetings for addressing directions of further military cooperation as the bilateral Lithuanian-German cooperation continues.
