New PRT rotation on training before deployment to Afghanistan

From August 11 to 16 transitional evaluation field tactical exercise Snake's Path takes place in the area of Pajuostys Airfield for the 14th shift of the Provincial Reconstruction Team on training before the multinational mission in Afghanistan.

The exercise scenario and the spectrum of tasks were generated with regard to the actual tasks PRT peacekeepers complete in the mission area to the end of to the maximum extent drawing to real conditions military training of units and individuals. Troops live in a copy of Chaghcharan base in Afghanistan, conduct protection of the compound and other tasks. PRT-14 staff and other elements drill interoperability procedures.

"This is the first exercise of such character involving nearly all the PRT-14 personnel in a joint training. This is wonderful opportunity to test the level of readiness of our contingent. My advice is to learn from the experience of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion who rotated back after the ISAF mission in Afghanistan this spring," said Lt Col Eligijus Senulis, Commander of the PRT-14 in the opening ceremony.

PRT-14 is formed on the basis of servicemembers and volunteers of the 5th Territorial Unit of Panevėžys Vytis Military District of the National Defence Volunteer Force. The rotation will deploy to the mission in Afghanistan this November.

At the moment PRT-13 based on the King Mindaugas Mechanised Infantry Battalion is in charge of security in Ghor.
