On January 23 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas took part in the annual Nordic-Baltic Chiefs of Defence meeting in Oslo, Norway. Chiefs of Defence with delegations of Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Finland, and Sweden discussed the regional security situation, running issues and development plans in their armed forces and joint projects of military cooperation.
"The Nordic countries remain among our closest partners. Their contribution to the enhancement of security in the Baltic Sea region is particularly important, therefore we have to maintain close relations and coordinate our actions together in seeking common goals," Lt Gen J. V. Žukas said.
Norwegians who led the NORDEFCO last year briefed the meeting participants on the results from last year, and Sweden, the country that leads the format this year, presented its priorities and objectives. Lithuanians presented the results of leading the Baltic Military Committee (trilateral cooperation at CHOD level) last year and the Estonian Armed Forces onto which the leadership has passed this year presented plans and priorities.
Also, representatives of the host, Norwegian Armed Forces, shared with their Nordic and Baltic colleagues the experience and impressions from the largest NATO Exercise since the Cold War, Exercise Trident Juncture 2018, held in Norway last year.
The Nordic-Baltic CHOD meetings are held once a year in one of the participating countries. Last year the event was held in Denmark.
