February 3, soldiers of the Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) visited youth education and teaching establishments in Chaghcharan and distributed donations from Lithuania.
Soldiers handed over assistance of PE"„Humana People To People Baltic" supplied winter clothing to children of Chaghcharan's foster home.
On the same day members of CIMIC Division of the PRT visited Soltan Razieh girls' school in the provincial capital Chaghcharan providing education to just under 2 thousand pupils. Peacekeepers spent some time communicating with the school principal and pupils and handed over around 1200 pairs of winter socks knitted by Lithuanian people and delivered via the "Warm hearts - warm feet" campaign. Soldiers also distributed donated schoolbags and other learning means.
Several weeks ago PRT military personnel also paid a visit to Gari Gazai school in Chaghcharan and presented several hundreds of socks to pupils. The total of around 2.5 thousand hand-made socks from Lithuania was distributed to local kids.
Winters are particularly harsh and snowy in Ghor. Many families are too poor to afford appropriate winter clothing to their youngest members. There have been numerous cases of limb amputation among children because of frostbite throughout the country this year. A huge shortage of humanitarian and social aid is felt in Afghanistan which makes the distributed assistance and important support to the country.
