On March 20 four-day staff training Smart Wolf II organised by personnel of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade (MIB) Iron Wolf (Lithuanian Land Force) was completed in Rukla (Jonavos Distr.). Members of the MIB Iron Wolf and attached units trained operational planning and control within a multinational division at the exercise.
The main objective of the staff exercise was to prepare appropriately for the multinational exercise Yellow Knight due this April where control groups and staff of the MIB Iron Wolf with colleagues from Latvia, Estonia and Denmark will hone their abilities of planning and controlling offensive operations.
In command posts installed across the MIB Iron Wolf military territory over 150 troops trained unit control and liaison procedures, command skills, tactical-level decision-making; evaluated operational plans that had been developed beforehand, conducted supplementary planning tasks, trained ensuring functioning of command posts, sending reports, and cooperation with superior staff, and completed other warfare tasks.
Command post exercise Smart Wolf II proceeded in three phases: preparation of participating units, planning part and exercise, 10 hrs non-stop battle control, hot wash-up, and return of participating units to home bases.
The main Training Audience of Smart Wolf II was the staff of the MIB Iron Wolf with attached personnel of the Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion, the Lithuanian Air Force and the Military Police. The training also involved MIB Iron Wolf subunits units: Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas, Lithuanian Grand Duke Kęstutis and Duke Vaidotas Mechanised Infantry Battalions and the General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery Battalion personnel from Reconnaissance, Headquarters, and Communications and Logistics Companies.
Smart Wolf II is a series of CPX: military plans prepared and tested during Smart Wolf II will be tried out with a conflict and tactical simulation system this April at Exercise Yellow Knight in Denmark. The exercise of the Danish Division staff will involve Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian and Danish brigade-level military personnel.
