Preparations for Exercise Saber Strike 2014 due this summer kicked off

On March 3-6 Adolfas Ramanauskas Warfare Training Centre (Nemenčinė) hosted the Concept Development Conference ahead of Exercise Saber Strike 2014 scheduled to take place this June throughout the Baltic States. The event pulled together approximately 20 military participants from 6 countries: Denmark, Estonia, U.S.A., Latvia, Lithuania and Finland.

"We have generated and agreed the exercise scenario, planned and arranged tactical situations which will form the basis of the command post exercise for the staffs of subunits of NATO and partner nations' armed forces," said Officer in Charge of Exercise Saber Srike 2014 Major (Lithuanian Land Force) Denisas Starikovičius. According to the officer, SABER STRIKE 2014 will enhance the interoperability and liaison among the armed forces of the allies and partner nations in planning and completion of military operations, improve combat readiness of units and facilitate exchange of experience.

The multinational exercise organised by the US Army Europe (USAREUR) will take place in June in the three Baltic States simultaneously. It will train military personnel from 8 countries: Estonia, Denmark, U.S.A., UK, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Finland.

Brigade-level staff planning procedures will be drilled across several exercise locations in Estonia and Latvia while the Adazi Training Range (Latvia) will host a company-level tactical field exercise at the same time which will involve land and air components.

At the Concept Development Conference Lithuania is represented by a Planning Group formed by the Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force. The core of the group is formed by the Lithuanian Land Force personnel. The Lithuanian Land Force Commander is responsible for the arrangement of the Host Nation Support for the participants and national evaluation of participating Lithuanian units.

Exercise Saber Strike will be taking place for the fourth time and focuses on defensive and offensive operations. The training event will be linked to a Baltic Host 2014, a Host Nation Support exercise in the Baltic States and the multinational exercise organised by the U.S. Army in the Baltic Region, BALTOPS.
