PRT-16 learn from PRT-14 experience on pre-mission training

On July 24 and 25 troops of the 16th rotation of Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team attended a cycle of lectures about the mission in Afghanistan at the National Defence Volunteer Force Headquarters in Vilnius.

The lecture was delivered by officers and ordinary troops of PRT-14 who drew on their own experience. They represented PRT-14 tasks, activities of separate teams and sections, the contingents lessons learnt through the completion of tasks in the mission area. The job done by the civilian component, administrative system and institutions of Ghowr was covered by Eugenijus Vaicekauskas, Head of PRT-11Civilian Element.

Representatives of the Embassy of Japan introduced the culture of Japan. The country's government commits substantial efforts and financial resources to improve Afghanistan's infrastructure. A representative of Japan conducts routine visits in Ghowr and works together with Chaghcharan PRT, therefore maintaining close cooperation between Japanese representatives and PRTs is crucial for the improvement of local Afghans' life.

Such cycle of lectures is really beneficial for the unit training for deployment to Afghanistan because it gives relevant information on the situation in Afghanistan, province of Ghowr. Sharing of information and experience allows the unit to complete an appropriate training before deployment.

According to the schedule PRT-16 will deploy to Ghowr this November. The rotation is formed by the 8th Territorial Unit of the Didžiosios Kovos Military District of the National Defence Volunteer Force. The rotation will be led by Major Linas Kubilius, commander of the 8th Territorial Unit.
