In February EOD personnel of the Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan PRT destroyed around 800 pieces of various types of ammunition. The batch was handed over to the Lithuanian-led PRT for destruction by representatives of the Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups, (DIAG) in Ghor.
In a remote location EOD team neutralized around twenty 107mm missiles, around fifty mortar mines, several tens of anti-tank projector and recoilless gun rounds, around 700 of heavy machine-gun rounds, several anti-tank and infantry mines, and other ammunitions. The operation took several days.
The goal of the DIAG Committee of Ghor is to collect arms and explosives from illegal armed groups, ensure appropriate and safe storage and neutralization. National Security Forces in Ghor province often turn to the Lithuanian-led PRT for help to neutralise gathered or found explosives because they lack capacity to destroy large amounts of explosives safely.
EOD team employs military personnel from Ukraine. The present shift is commanded by a Lithuanian officer from the Land Force's Training Centre Maj Vaidotas Mockevičius.
PRT-12 is formed mainly of troops of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion providing personnel for the ISAF mission in Ghor for a second time.
Representatives of Denmark, Georgia, Japan, USA, and Ukraine are deployed for service at the base of the Lithuanian-led PRT together with Lithuanian personnel. The team of the EU Police Mission (EUPOL) in Afghanistan is based at the PRT camp and includes Ukrainian and Finish representatives along with the Lithuanian personnel.
