On 12-16 September, troops of the Reconnaissance Company of the Motorised Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" together with troops of Reconnaissance Platoon of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion take part in the international exercise "Maple Arch 2011". Eighteen reconnaissance servicemembers of Lithuania along with troops of Canada, Poland, and Ukraine participate in the exercise which takes place in the Polish Land Forces Training Center located in Żagań, Poland. The exercise aims at enhancing command skills of unit control groups through tactical tasks on the international stage.
More than twenty trainers of the Canadian Armed Force conduct multinational exercise in accordance with the scenario of international operations in Afghanistan. The main subjects of the training include fight against improvised explosive devices, convoy operations, search and protection of a locality, and Force protection. More than one hundred troops improve their skills and knowledge while performing tactical actions related to detection of improvised explosive devices, implementing convoy operations and vehicle inspections at checkpoints, as well as monitoring and evaluating the locality.
The exercise "Maple Arch 2011" is being held according to the principle "Train the Trainer". First of all, trainers present a theoretical lecture, afterward they host a demonstration and finally troops take part in the exercise. At the end of the exercise during organised tactical situation, the troops will be able to demonstrate acquired skills and knowledge.
"Maple Arch 2011" exercise is funded by the Canadian Military Training Assistance Programme. The objective of the exercise is to enhance interaction and training of Lithuanian, Polish and Ukrainian military units assigned to NATO operations. The exercise is being held in one out of three participating countries and conducted by experienced Canadian troops.
