October 8, representatives of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) of the United States visited Military Cartography Centre of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Head of the Military Cartography Centre Maj Apolonas Timofejevas, military and civilian personnel took part in the meeting.
In the event equipment in the Centre's possession, work done and future plans were presented. Personnel's abilities of using equipment donated by the US Government were evaluated at the Centre. Points of renewing the equipment in the Centre's possession were also touched upon.
National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency is combat support agency of the US Department of Defence and a member of national Intelligence Community (IC). NGA renders relevant and accurate data of geospatial intelligence in support of national security objectives. Geospatial intelligence refers to analysis of imagery and geospatial information to the end of describing, evaluating and visually representing physical objects and geographically defined activities on the Earth.
Military Cartography Centre is subordinate to the Logistic Command and fulfils its key task of providing cartographic and geographic information during peacetime, in case of aggression or natural disasters for the National Defence System.
