Rotational U.S. troops begin joint training with Lithuanian colleagues

With all of the heavy infantry company and logistical personnel, and their equipment, already in Lithuania, the new U.S. rotation formed by the 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army, begin several-month long training in Lithuania this week.


On February 9 the rotation of the 173rd Air Assault Brigade was farewelled and the rotation of the 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army, welcomed during a ceremony in Duke Vaidotas Battalion.


U.S. Army has maintained a rotating presence in the Baltic states and Eastern Europe since spring 2014 as part of U.S. Army-led Operation Atlantic Resolve for the eastern part of the Alliance.


The outgoing U.S. rotation formed by the 173rd Brigade was the first one deployed in Lithuania in April 2014 as a demonstration of strong U.S. and NATO commitment to collective defence of the Alliance and to the security of the region in light of the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
