On April 21, Saturday, the unique, only, and already traditional Runway Run 2018 will take place at the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai. The event will be entertaining for all the family members, from the youngest to seniors, professional sportsmen, amateurs, lovers of quality pastime, and it is not important whether you will make the distance running or walking, while the youngest participants will be able to use roller skates, scooters, or make it in a baby stroller. Even pets are welcome to join if taken care of throughout the event.
The run is dedicated to the 14th anniversary of Lithuania's NATO membership. Lithuanian soldiers will be joined on the runway by their NATO colleagues, organisations, sports clubs, education institutions, mayor of Šiauliai, individual enthusiasts, and whoever else wishes, youngest to oldest.
The NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania, Lithuanian Armed Forces, Lithuanian Police, Fire and Rescue Service will be represented at the event, the impressive France's AMX Leclerc tank, CV90, Fennek, Boxer, Wiesel, Quad infantry fighting vehicles, other armoured personnel carriers, a wide range of weaponry from light infantry arms to automatic grenade launchers and artillery guns will be available for viewing, as well as helmets, vests and gear - for trying on. Also, for the first time in history the NATO eFP Battalion's soldiers will form a two hundred-strong formation with us to march down the runway in full gear.
The Lithuanian Police will welcome the participants to see the equipment and vehicles, feel and try on special gear, tests knowledge and win prizes, meet Amsius the dog, and test their smartness in a "room of secrets on wheels".
The Fore and Rescue Service will bring to show their Renault Kerax truck, Autocisterna Sciania, and a KM six-wheeler. The 6th Territorial Unit of Gen P. Plechavičius Riflemen will invite to test your hand in a military range with an airsoft rifle. The Military Conscription and Manning Service will be ready to answer your questions on the Continuous Initial Mandatory Military Service, professional military service and career opportunities in Lithuania!
The Lithuanian Grand Duchess Birutė Society of Women from Officers' Families will entertain children and invite them to play on an inflatable trampoline, blow soap bubbles, and to other activities.
In the finish run-in the participants will be met by Lithuanian Air Force Band, after the run everyone will be treated to military tea and refreshments. Commemorative souvenirs will be given to everyone after surmounting the 3 km distance.
Special prizes of the Minister of National Defence and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be given to the largest teams. Mayor of Šiauliai will present monetary prizes established by sponsors to the best team and winners of the first places. The awards will be followed by a concert by a currently very popular singer BEATRICH.
