June 29, King Mindaugas Mechanised Infantry Battalion (Pajuostis village, Panevėžys distr.) will host the 8th Baltic Military Sport Games, a three-day event. Over a hundred and a half of anticipated participants will gather from Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian Armed Forces and military youth organisations.
In the event participants will meet in adult and junior groups. The former will test their strength in beach volleyball, mini football, basketball 3x3, sport fishing, chess, weight lifting, and summer biathlon. Juniors will take part in tug of war, obstacle course, beach volleyball, basketball 3x3, and summer biathlon matches.
The 8th Baltic Military Sport Games will be opened in Mindaugas Battalion on June 29 at 18.00hrs and will end with the closing and award ceremony on July 1 at 16.00hrs. Representatives of the Ministry of National Defence, the Armed Forces and Panevėžys Municipality will be invited to take part in the solemn ceremonies.
The Baltic Military Sport Games are held every three years, in 2007 the event was hosted by the Lithuanian Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Training Battalion in Klaipeda. Mindaugas Battalion provides venue for the event for a second time. Organiser of the Games is the Sports Club of the Lithuanian Armed Forces representing the International Military Sports Council (CISM) in Lithuania.
The International Military Sports Council established on 18 February 1948 is one of the biggest sports organisations in the world. CISM organises various types of sports events for national armed forces of 132 countries. The mission of the organisation is contribution to global peace by uniting national military forces through sports as reflected in the organisation's slogan: „Friendship through Sport". Lithuania joined CISM in 1993.
