By getting knowledge of NATO allies capabilities, opportunities, and knowledge of operational procedures, military operations planning, individual tasks training and purposeful preparation for operations conduct in real terrain, the first phase of the multinational exercise Saber Junction got in full swing. In the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Germany, in the training area near Hohenfels more than 250 soldiers from Lithuanian Land Force and assigned elements along with the NATO allies and partner nations are training to carry a wide range of military operations.
During the first phase of the exercise, conducted in August 24-30 the Mechanized Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" staff together with assigned specialists of different fields from other units of Lithuanian Armed Forces, US Pennsylvania Army National Guard and the 173 Airborne Brigade are conducting military planning procedures and prepare combat order of the brigade. Its effectiveness will be checked in tactical tasks conduct in the training area during the active phase of the exercise to be held on August 31 - September 10. Continuous tactical tasks and battle control will be focused on attack, defence and stabilization operations.
In the composition of one US battalion Lithuanian motorized Infantry company and anti-tank squad of the Grand Duchess Birutė Uhlan Battalion during the first exercise phase together with US troops will conduct training of different tasks. During theoretical and practical training soldiers develop skills in tactics, driver training, medical assistance, air support, intelligence, evidence collection, counter-improvised explosive devices, and other areas.

During multinational exercise Saber Junction 2014 Lithuanian and foreign soldiers conduct operations planning and preparation for battle procedures, train for attack, defence and stabilization operations, perform manoeuvre actions, act in different tactical situations. In parallel with these tasks units improve command and control procedures, train to coordinate actions, ensure functionality of command posts, take tactical decisions, and carry out other military tasks.
This multinational exercise in Germany is an integral part of the Lithuanian Land Force combat unit training plan, which continues purposeful preparation of soldiers for different tasks conduct along with NATO allies not only in Lithuania, but also abroad.
