Troops of the CIS Battalion returned after deployment to Iraq

Personnel of the Deployable Communications and Information Systems Module (DCISM) of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Great Hetman Kristupas Radvila Perkūnas Signal and IS Battalion have returned to Lithuania after four months of NATO mission in Iraq.  The Lithuanians were ensuring 24/7 availability of communication networks and information systems with colleagues from Italy, Spain, Germany, U.S., Türkiye and France as the Signal Support Group.

According to Deputy Commander of the NATO Mission in Iraq (NMI) Brigadier General Robert C. Gellner, Lithuanian troops demonstrated excellent performance. “Lithuania military personnel have not just exceeded the set requirements but also took care of everyone in the mission despite their rank, duties or positions otherwise. They were showing excellent leadership, coordination skills and dedication to the common cause regardless of the difficult environment.” Their professionalism and input in the overall success of the mission was recognized with NMI certificates of appreciation.

The military operation has been conducted in Baghdad, capital of Iraq, since 2018, to train instructors, teachers, leaders, and improve practices of the Iraqi security forces and other national security institutions. Highly experienced advisors from NATO and partner nations cooperate with the Iraqi security forces and Government to build a safer and more stable state of Iraq. The mission is expected to form a long-term partnership with a key partner in the Middle East.
