On the 27th of May Lithuanian Air Force Base was visited by about 40 cadets from United States of America (USA). They were introduced with Lithuanian Air Force, the NATO Air policing mission over the Baltic countries.
Air Force base chief of Staff Major Gintautas Slovikas familiarized guests with the history of the Air Base (AB), it's infrastructure, activities, future plans and LTU Air Force aircrafts.
After the presentation, cadets visited AB Quick Reaction Alert zone (QRA), where the French Air Force contingent, currently responsible for the safety of the Baltic air space, is deployed.
French unit commander LTC Benjamin Vinot Prefontaine introduced American cadets with the French Air Force, their aircrafts, the NATO air policing mission and other missions.
Cadets also had the opportunity to view the French fighter Mirage F-1CR used in the NATO air policing mission over the Baltic States, and the Lithuanian Air Force aircraft C-27J Spartan.
On the 30th of May 10 U.S. cadets and 2 supervisors flew in the LTU AF aircraft L-410 over Siauliai and viewed the Hill of Crosses as well as the city and it's surroundings.
At present, there are approximately 40 cadets at various military units in Siauliai, Klaipeda and Vilnius to teach English to Lithuanian personnel, and to become accustomed to the Lithuanian army, and culture.
