March 18, military of the Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) backed up provincial police in suppressing inmate riot in Chaghcharan prison.
The unrest broke out because of prisoners' discontent with transfer of an inmate sentenced to the death penalty for homicide to another jail, according to ANP officers.
Response Force strengthened by Lithuanian troops monitored situation in the incident area and conducted exterior guard of the object.
Afghan National Police turned for assistance to the Lithuanian-led Ghowr Provincial Reconstruction Team stationed in Chaghcharan. Advisory Team of the US Security Forces deployed at the camp of Lithuanian military rendered support to the local police.
The unrest was subdued when Afghan National Police forces seized initiators of the riot.
Deputy Chief of Ghowr Police Abdul Rashid Bashir thanked soldiers of PRT for assistance provided and steady cooperation.
The incident did not bring about any casualties or injuries.
