October 23, the last large-scale military training event Iron Wolf 2021-II in Lithuania this year has ended. The exercise culminated in a “force on force” defensive and offensive operation at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area (Pabradė): a joint tanks and armored vehicles unit under C2 from the Algirdas Mechanized Infantry Battalion HQ was “attacked” by the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group troops with military equipment.
Leopard and Abrams main battle tanks, Marder, CV 90, VCI Pizarro infantry fighting vehicles, Stryker, Fuchs and Boxer armoured vehicles, PzH2000 self-propelled artillery systems were used for training in the exercise. The exercise used over a 3000-strong training audience and approx. 1000 articles of military equipment to certify planning, offensive, defensive and other military activity capabilities in the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group Lithuania and Iron Wolf Brigade Algirdas Mechanized Infantry Battalion Headquarter and Reconnaissance Company.
Exercise Iron Wolf is one of the largest annual military training events in the Lithuanian Armed Forces. It is held to maintain combat readiness of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf and its subordinate battalions.
