3rd Mechanised Infantry Company of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion with assigned units will be on standby for the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJFT) in composition of the UK-led Land Force Element as of the beginning of 2017. The Lithuanian infantry company will be assigned to the Danish Army Battalion while a National Support Element will be ensuring its logistical provision.
On March 31 Lithuanian soldiers departed for the Kingdom of Denmark to take part in a field training exercise and practice defensive operations as part of the Danish Battalion.
"It is a part of preparations for standby for the NATO VJFT that begins in 2017. We began our joint training with Denmark's Hussar Battalion Combat Group last November were we succeeded to showcase the particular high level of readiness of Algirdas Battalion personnel. Lithuanian and Danish armed forces have been developing cooperation since the re-establishment of independence, and the joint exercise only proves that over 20-year long cooperation is visible on the battlefield in terms of procedural conformity and shared perception of an enemy," Captain Algirdas Navasaitis, Commander of the 3rd Company, Algirdas Battalion, Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf.
The exercise in Denmark is a part of the training for standby for the NATO VJTF 2017. The forces assigned to the VJTF will be certified at Exercise Saber Strike 2016 which will take place this June concurrently in Lithuania and several other NATO countries.
