December 21, Chief of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany General Eberhard Zorn is conducting a formal visit to Lithuania. Meeting with Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt Gen Valdemaras Rupšys at Lithuania’s largest military garrison in Rukla (Jonava region), he maintained that the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group deployed in Rukla whose framework nation is Germany is at the peak of readiness at the moment.

The Lithuanian and German Chiefs of Defence also new prospects for bilateral military cooperation between the countries’ Navies and Special Operations Forces, participation in joint military exercises and multinational operations next year – Lithuania plans contributing to the French-led EU Task Force Takuba in Mali and the EU Military Training Missions in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique) and Ukraine.

“I can assure you – Germany is one of our strongest partners. They are investing in our infrastructure and security with full strength and the dialogue between our countries is vital at all levels – we have to synchronize our view of the potential threat picture, defence plans and actions,” Chief of Defence Lt Gen Valdemaras Rupšys said.

Chiefs of Defence l also addressed the 5th anniversary of the NATOP eFP deployment in Rukla (in February 2022), and the German Chief of Defence conveyed best oncoming holidays wishes to the German troops deployed in Lithuania.
