The Lithuanian Armed Forces is stepping up the cooperation with the State Border Guard Service (Lith. VSAT) by sending capabilities to strengthen border guard near Kaliningrad. This measures is aimed to contribute to the routine border guard activity, support public order in the border territories and strengthen the collaboration among Lithuania’s public institutions.
VSAT work will be supported with a company-sized unit to patrol border-crossing areas with VSAT officers. In case of necessity, mobile patrols, mobile check-posts and Military Police escorts may be involved. The military is contributing as off October 8 for the next two weeks or longer is deemed needed.
Involvement of the Lithuanian Armed Forces is a preventive measure and a routine practice of cooperation among public institutions for strengthening border guard capabilities and ensuring effective completion of mutual tasks. This activity is consistently ensuring state border security.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces will continue conducting the designate tasks, maintain readiness, and interact and collaborate with responsible institutions to ensure security of the state border and citizens.
This kind of cooperation between the Armed Forces and the State Border Guard Service is an integral part the national defence. In the event of war, VSAT units would join armed defence of the state as part of the Wartime Armed Forces side by side with the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
